Hands-on development and technical leadership

My work has included more than 200 custom applications across manufacturing, energy, healthcare, real estate, education, aviation, and commerce. Some engagements start with a new idea; others start with an existing system that needs repair or a developer who is no longer available.

I have also built and led a 20-person engineering organization, with responsibilities across software architecture, development, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, cybersecurity, and quality assurance.

Examples of the work

Projects include an industrial SCADA ecosystem, a custom MES for precast manufacturing, and an equipment-rental storefront and administration platform. I have also worked on healthcare case workflows and real estate data integrations.

How I approach an inherited application

I want to understand what the software does for the people using it before changing the code. That means looking at the data, integrations, and daily tasks as well as the application itself. I explain the options and the tradeoffs so you can decide what is worth doing.

Technical and business background

PHP is a core strength. My broader technical work has included Python, JavaScript, Go, C++, Rust, SQL and NoSQL databases, AWS, REST APIs, and distributed systems.

I hold an MBA and a Bachelor of Business Administration and have undertaken graduate study in data science. Earlier roles in product management and software-company operations inform how I scope development work.
